Los Cabos: Travel Guide

Cabo is paradise — it’s situated at the tip of the Baja peninsula on the Sea of Cortez. Stunning sunsets and turquoise water and generally great weather. Los Cabos is what the area is called — and consists of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. I think Cabo is one of the best spots to visit in Mexico — there are many beautiful resorts and delicious, fresh foods. There are a few things to consider about Cabo when visiting. I shared our exact itinerary and what I’d do differently next time.

Stay

We stayed at the Esperanza and it delivered — classic, impeccable service and location, beautiful views, and a private beach. It was totally luxe and a wonderful place to relax and recharge.

Here’s what I didn’t know — the private beach was small and not walkable. You also can’t really get in the ocean because it’s so rocky. Knowing this, I probably would’ve chosen to stay somewhere with a beach for morning walks (one of my favorite things to do on a beach vacation). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay though and I definitely recommend it (as long as you don’t mind the beach).

Years ago I stayed at the One & Only Palmilla in Cabo. It was extraordinary – top notch service, beautiful grounds. And key for me — a walkable beach. [I don’t believe you’re able to get in the water though for the same reasons as Esperanza — a rocky beach].

Another place we visited during our trip and that I would love to stay in a future trip is The Cape. Absolutely beautiful view and trendy and modern design. The restaurant, Manta, was one of our favorite meals during our trip. Another spot I’d check out in the future is Chileno Bay, which is on one of Cabo’s swimmable beaches.

There are seven accessible beaches in Cabo. If walking on the beach and/or getting into the water is important to you — research before and make sure whatever hotel you choose is on an accessible beach.

Notes + What I’d do differently/next time

  • Plan around sunset (we came during November so sunsert started around 5:15pm) – make dinner reservations for 6pm or later. Everywhere we went on the beach had an amazing space to sit and enjoy the sunset.
  • There are seven accessible beaches in Cabo. If walking on the beach and/or getting into the water is important to you — research before and make sure whatever hotel you choose is on an accessible beach.
  • I liked that we left the resort a few times and saw both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo (collectively known as Los Cabos).
  • There is an Art Walk on Thursday nights in San Jose (I believe from November to April). It was touristy but fun to check out — we’re glad we went.
  • I want to have lunch or dinner at Flora Farms — the grounds were beautiful (it gave me San Ysidro Ranch vibes  in Santa Barbara).
  • Watch a sunset from The Cape rooftop bar.
  • Try El Huerto for lunch or dinner.
